In My Mailbox (19)

In My Mailbox is a meme originally hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren (click for more information) that shares all the new books you've bought, borrowed, received, or traded for the week.

I had a pretty slow week, but I'm happy with what I got. Oh and happy Memorial Day weekend everyone! Enjoy :D

Library/for review:

It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han
Summary: (taken from Goodreads)

Last year, all of Belly's dreams came true and the thought of missing a summer in Cousins Beach was inconceivable. But like the rise and fall of the ocean tide, things can change--just like that. Suddenly the time she's always looked forward to most is something she dreads. And when Jeremiah calls to say Conrad has disappeared, Belly must decide how she will spend this summer: chasing after the boy she loves, or finally letting him go.

Eee I'm beyond excited to read this one! I fell in love with The Summer I Turned Pretty and I've heard this one is even better.

The Lighter Side of Death by C.K. Kelly Martin
Summary: (taken from Goodreads)

Sixteen-year-old Mason Rice is having the night of his life. He's just delivered an incredible performance in the school play, basked in celebratory afterglow vibes at the party of the year, and lost his virginity to one of his best friends—the gorgeous but previously unobtainable Kat Medina. His dreams are coming true, and the future looks golden.

Unfortunately, Kat sees things very differently. Crossing the friendship line was a big mistake, and all she wants is to forget it and move on, even if that means forgetting Mason altogether. What's a guy to do? Well, if you're Mason, you hang your hopes on the first attractive twenty-three-year-old you cross paths with. At first Mason wonders if he's imagining the chemistry . . . until Colette invites him over to her apartment. Suddenly Mason's living in a whole new world.

I've been dying to read this one since like forever. I put my name first on the hold list a couple of months ago and it finally came in. I can't wait!

The Host by Stephanie Meyer
Summary: (taken from Goodreads)

The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. But Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves--Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

I decided to try something else by Stephanie Meyer, but I'm not too sure about it. Has anyone read it....what did you think of it?

What's in your mailbox?

You know, I ended up liking The Host a lot more than I was expecting. It has some great characters, even though the writing isn't the best. It starts off slow, but I got super into it.

The Host is really good. But give the main character a chance because I didn't like her at the beginning.

Happy Reading

Great books! The Host is pretty good, so I hope you enjoy it. Also, The Lighter Side of Death sounds amazing! I'm a huge fan of C.K.'s previous books, so I'm really looking forward to reading that one, as well as your review for it. Happy reading! :)

I'm on the wait list at my library for The Summer I Turned Pretty. I'm excited for my turn.

I liked The Host a lot, though it took me awhile to get into. It's very very different from her other writing. The writing in The Host is much strong and much more interesting, to be honest. I did enjoy it. But it's nothing at all like the Twilight saga, if that helps at all.

I still haven't read The Host yet. My sister says I should read it-she liked it a lot more than the Twilight Saga. I've heard good things about The Summer I Turned Pretty but I haven't had the chance to read it yet. Enjoy your books!

It's Not Summer Without You <3. Gosh, I just love this series. I know you're pretty excited to read it and I hope it lives up to your expectations. :)

And I liked The Host a lot actually. It's better than Twilight in multiple ways although it still has similar elements (romance, love triangle, etc). My only advice is, don't get discouraged if you find the plot moving a little slow in the beginning. The chapters are short but it takes getting through quite a handful of them before things get interesting. At least it did for me.

Other than that, enjoy! :D
