In My Mailbox (23)

In My Mailbox is a meme originally hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren (click for more information) that shares all the new books you've bought, borrowed, received, or traded for the week.

I had a not too bad week. I didn't get too many books, but I'm really excited about the ones I got! And I have some books from book tours coming in really soon, yay :D

Received in mail/won:

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
Summary: (taken from Goodreads)

Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn't seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she's coming to terms with her father's death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road--diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself.

I've heard soooo many good things about this one. I caved in and put it in my Border's shopping cart, but a day later I somehow won it from Cindy over at Princess Bookie! Thanks again Cindy. Yay I'm so excited. I'll be starting on this one bright and early tomorrow morning on a very long car ride :)

Library/for review:

The Awakening (Darkest Powers #2) by Kelley Armstrong
Summary: (taken from Goodreads)

If you had met me a few weeks ago, you probably would have described me as an average teenage girl—someone normal. Now my life has changed forever and I'm as far away from normal as it gets. A living science experiment—not only can I see ghosts, but I was genetically altered by a sinister organization called the Edison Group. What does that mean? For starters, I'm a teenage necromancer whose powers are out of control; I raise the dead without even trying. Trust me, that is not a power you want to have. Ever.

Now I'm running for my life with three of my supernatural friends—a charming sorcerer, a cynical werewolf, and a disgruntled witch—and we have to find someone who can help us before the Edison Group finds us first. Or die trying.

So...I just finished reading the first book in this series. And it just happened like that, I fell in LOVE. I got my hands on this one as soon as I could. I can't wait to read it! Unforgettably I'm going to have to wait a little bit for the third book because of the long hold list.

Breathless by Jessica Warman
Summary: (taken from Goodreads)

When Katie Kitrell is shipped off to boarding school by her distant father and overbearing mother, it doesn’t take her long to become part of the It Crowd. She’s smart, she’s cute, and she’s an Olympic-bound swimmer who has a first class ticket to any Ivy League school of her choice. But what her new friends, roommate, and boyfriend don’t know is that Katie is swimming away from her past, and from her schizophrenic older brother, Will, who won’t let her go. And when he does the unthinkable, it’s all Katie can do to keep her head above water.

I decided to give this one a go. It sounds pretty interesting and I'm a fan of the cover.

OK so that's it for this week. Oh and I also put Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins on hold at the library. Guess how many people are in front of me? 101! Isn't that crazy? I went ahead and pre-ordered it instead :)

And last thing I promise! Today (Sunday) is the last day to win a copy Sea Change by Aimee Friedman, so make sure to enter if you haven't already! Click HERE.

What's in your mailbox?

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour sounds like the perfect book for your long car ride! I've ordered it on interlibrary loan and I am hoping it will arrive before I leave for vacation.

I need to try The Darkest Powers series soon. I keep hearing about how good it is. I preordered Mockingjay too because I knew I wouldn't be able to wait to read it. I am not surprised that there are 101 people on the waiting list at your library.

I hope you enjoy your books!

I agree, Amy & Roger's Epic Detour sounds like such a great summer read- road trips really bring back those memories. I absolutely love Kelley Armstrong's series, so glad to hear you enjoyed them! Darn those hold lists. Her cliffhangers make the wait almost unbearable! And the cover for Breathless is so pretty.

101 people in a hold list?? That's crazy (I remember the lists for the last Harry Potter books, haha). Can't wait for it to come out though!

101 people! Wow! Well, my village library is very, very small and I doubt anybody else in a 15-mile radius even knows that the Hunger Games books exist!

I've on all occasions liked things like sand clocks, lava lamps, and the like to good of just fritter away time staring at it as a form of catharsis. In a course, it helps me with meditation, to mitigate stress and scarcely deem just about nothing. That's why since I was a kid, instead of dolls and cars I've perpetually at ease more of such pieces like sand clocks, lava lamps, harmonious boxes etc. So I was most enchanted when I base the 2-Laser + LED Inconsiderable Manifest Laser Outstrip Gyroscope with Music Effects from DealtoWorld.com answerable to the Toys section. It's like a tuneful caddy, a spinning top, and a light verify all rolled into one. Which is spectacular amusement! The gyroscope transfer concoct for around a minute. The laser explanation pretension with accompanying music makes this gyroscope a rather unique bauble that my friends be subjected to also been most amused with.

My dogs are also fair intrusive about the laser gyroscope I got from DealtoWorld.com. They each cleave to the gyroscope as it spins, although at first they kept barking at the laser diverting dismiss boast, and also because it produces music. But after they got tempered to it, they've stopped barking but just save up following the gyroscope whenever I start spinning it. Kids are also bonny amused alongside it. Sometimes it's good to have pleasing toys on all sides the house so that you can desert the bit of frippery trifle with on while the kids are being amused or playing with it while you open to get up viands or sock changed. The gyroscope is a particular such play with with this purpose.

The gyroscope I bought from DealtoWorld.com has a dragon as a design on it, and produces a dainty show with red, blue, and unskilled colours. Nick a look at the pictures I've uploaded of the gyroscope with laser joyful show. The music produced from the gyroscope is not that expert but allowable adequacy to consider any supplementary guest to the house. The gyroscope is red and raven, making it look particular cold, and slightly virile with that dragon imprint.

The music dismount attack show gyroscope runs on 6 LR44 batteries, which are replaceable anyway. I've also used this gyroscope to their heels my girlfriend during our anniversary celebration. I did the cheesy matter of decorating the hotel elbow-room with roses and when I led her in, I started up the gyroscope as well so that the laser light show produces a ideal effect. I also had some battery operated candles so all the moonlight effects created a rather romantic atmosphere. She loved it, not later than the style, to my relief. I also bought the candles from DealtoWorld.com. These days it seems to be my non-fulfilment shopping site suitable all gifts and ideas in compensation romantic occasions.

Since Christmas is coming, this laser radiance playing gyroscope can maybe be a momentous Christmas gift for the toddler or even the humour! Alternatively, the gyroscope can simply be a gracious reckoning to the established Christmas decorations. I can take it as given placing it just about the Christmas tree and maybe spinning it when guests succeed in the house. Looks like DealtoWorld.com is getting my subject still again!
